Surfer SEO Alternatives for SaaS Founders Who Need Distribution, Not Another Content Score

公開日 2026年8月20日

Disclosure: I built Growthfy. This is not a neutral roundup. Most “Surfer alternatives” posts compare content scores. That is the wrong comparison if you are a SaaS founder trying to turn one article into pipeline.

Surfer wins at on-page / SERP content scoring. Growthfy does not. Growthfy is built for a different bottleneck: the keyword → article → X / LinkedIn / Reddit distribution loop. If the problem is “this draft does not look like the pages that already rank,” buy Surfer or Clearscope. If the problem is “I can write the post and still cannot get it in front of buyers,” keep reading.

Prices below are from official public pages as of 18 August 2026.

The founder bottleneck is rarely the score

A typical week dies in four places: a keyword a buyer would type, a draft you will put your name on, a rewrite that does not sound like a blog post pasted into X or Reddit, and shipping before the next sprint.

Surfer, Frase, and Clearscope are strong at the first two. They are built for people whose job is better pages. That is often not your job. You need demand, a specific article, and distribution — then a yes/no on the charge. A 92 Content Score does not do that. A finished article, a native X thread, a Reddit draft you post by hand, and a Markdown file for the blog does.

What Surfer actually wins

Surfer is the default for a reason. The Content Score, SERP guidelines, and AI-visibility tracking are the product. If you already have writers, a CMS, and a distribution habit, Surfer makes the page more competitive against what already ranks.

It is not a distribution product. It will not pick buyer-intent keywords for a two-person SaaS, rewrite the piece for X and Reddit, or auto-post a thread.

Official Surfer pricing (surferseo.com/pricing), shown billed yearly:

PlanPrice on pageWhat you are buying
Discovery$49/mo, billed yearly120 documents, 10 tracked pages, AI SEO guidelines. No AI-prompt tracking on this tier.
Standard$99/mo, billed yearly360 documents, 25 AI prompts (weekly), 1-click optimization.
Pro$182/mo, billed yearly50 AI prompts (daily), 5 brand workspaces, internal linking, cannibalization.
Peace of Mind$299/mo, billed yearlyUnlimited documents (fair use), 100 daily prompts, API, dedicated CSM.
Enterprise$999/moCustom security, advisory, white-label.

The public page defaults to annual billing. Month-to-month stickers were not printed as standalone prices; the FAQ says annual billing saves up to 17%. Right category if you refresh existing URLs. Wrong one if you still have to create, adapt, and ship the piece yourself.

The two alternatives founders actually compare

“Surfer alternative” usually means a cheaper research-and-draft loop, or a stricter editorial grader. That is Frase and Clearscope.

Frase — research → draft → CMS

Frase runs an on-site loop: research the SERP, draft in your voice, score for SEO/GEO, publish to WordPress / Webflow / Sanity / Wix (or FraseCMS), and watch decaying pages. Every plan can let the agent publish. Buy it when you want more finished pages on your site. It is not built around native X / Reddit distribution.

Official Frase pricing (frase.io/pricing): Starter $49/mo month-to-month ($39/mo billed yearly) — 10 articles, 50 audits, 1 seat. Professional $129 / $103 — 40 articles, 3 seats. Scale $299 / $239 — 100 articles, 5 seats. Enterprise is custom. 7-day trial, no card. Extra seats on Professional/Scale are $29/mo. If you only need on-site drafts and a CMS push, take their trial. It is easier to start than ours.

Clearscope — editorial grade at team scale

Clearscope is the premium grader: writers draft, the tool scores topic coverage, the team ships. Current public plans also include AI-prompt and brand-visibility tracking. Buy it when you already have people producing content and you want a shared quality bar. Skip it if you are still the person inventing the keyword, the draft, and the distribution.

Official Clearscope pricing (clearscope.io/pricing): Essentials $129/month (50 tracked prompts, 50 pages, 20 explorations, 20 drafts). Business $399/month (300 / 300 / 50 / 20, dedicated AM). Enterprise custom (SSO, custom credits). 14-day free trial. A public annual discount for Essentials/Business was not listed.

Where Growthfy sits — and where it does not

Growthfy is not a better SEO scorer than Surfer or Clearscope. If you need that number, use the tool that invented the workflow.

Growthfy is the production-and-distribution loop for a founder who is the content team: buyer-intent keywords, a long-form article, then platform-native rewrites — an X thread, a Reddit post that does not read like an ad, a blog-ready Markdown file — and a ship path for what is actually live.

What is live vs what is not

This table is from the current product, not a pitch deck.

CapabilityStatus
Buyer-intent keyword researchLive
Long-form article, outline, Markdown exportLive
X thread rewrite + post through the browser extensionLive. DOM automation in a logged-in X tab, not the official X API.
LinkedIn rewrite + post through the browser extensionLive. Same extension queue as X: you hit Publish on the article rail, the extension drives the LinkedIn compose UI. Not the official LinkedIn API.
Reddit-native rewriteLive as a draft you copy and post yourself. Not auto-posted.
WordPressNot live. You publish the Markdown elsewhere, then can paste the URL back (manual_blog). Not a native CMS.
Paid attributionLive. Content × channel → a Paddle paid charge, not a signup count.
On-page / SERP content scoreNot a product. Use Surfer or Clearscope.
Official social APIs, native WordPress/Webflow publishNot live. Do not buy us for that.

Growth is the default: 8 keyword runs, 30 articles, 90 social publishes, 3 channels, 3 workspaces, last 60 runs of history. Scale raises those caps — 10 workspaces, unlimited history — and includes Priority support (24h). Both include deep research, internal links, and Credit Packs.

LinkedIn posting and paid attribution are live. Do not wait on a “coming this month” row for those. LinkedIn still means the browser extension, not an official API. Reddit is still a draft you post by hand.

Decision

If you already have writers, a CMS, and a distribution habit, buy Surfer or Clearscope. If you want more pages on your site and a publish button into WordPress or Webflow, take Frase’s trial.

If you are the content team — a buyer-intent keyword, a long-form draft, an X thread, a LinkedIn post queued through the extension, a Reddit draft you publish yourself, a Markdown file for the blog, and a yes/no on the Paddle charge — start at growthfy.ai.
